The 2017 Acura NSX has finally been released, though it will prove to be a rarely sighted beast no matter where you are in the country. These hybrid supercars can be difficult to find, making them even more noticeable on the road, so make sure you act fast if you want to get behind the driver’s seat.
The 2017 Acura NSX is a precision-crafted supercar that uses traditional styling as its touchstone and then advances the concept in every way possible. It’s a stunning vehicle to set your eyes on, capable of turning heads around New York City and anywhere else, but every line and curve has its purpose.
Exceptional airflow management is achieved through the sweeping design of the NSX, and there are 10 functional air intakes to both cool the engine and improve aerodynamics. They seem to be doing their job — the NSX boasts the lowest co-efficient of drag in its class. Along with extensive use of carbon fiber to increase torsional rigidity without sacrificing safety, these design features allow Acura’s thoroughbred performer to stand out from the crowd.
The NSX’s sport hybrid powertrain is centered around a turbocharged 3.5L DOHC twin-turbo V6, but it offers so much more. That engine would be news in and of itself thanks to a phenomenal 500 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, but adding the vehicle’s hybrid elements takes that output up to a staggering 573 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque, with power refined through a nine-speed automated manual transmission.
The NSX actually takes quite an innovative approach when it comes to the placement of these motors. The front wheels are each connected to their own electric motor, while the engine sends power to the back wheels. That means more than all-wheel drive capability — it means that the NSX can exert extreme control over power delivery to make cornering more satisfying and understeer more unlikely.
The final motor is mounted to the crankshaft to ensure seamless shifts and excellent torque at low speeds. All told, the NSX’s pioneering powertrain set-up will let you achieve up to 21 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.*
With that kind of power and engineering on tap, Acura estimates that the 2017 NSX will be able to blaze from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 3 seconds. That would place it alongside the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 Turbo at the front of the segment, even while it outperforms both in terms of efficiency.
It also features a number of performance features to maximize your driving enjoyment. For instance, the ultra-rigid space frame super skeleton delivers superior balance, and the Launch Mode function shaves precious seconds off your acceleration times.
The Acura NSX is the kind of car worth celebrating, even if you’re unlikely to see one in Port Washington or Manhasset. If you’d like to attract envious glances, make sure you contact Rallye Acura today and we’ll see what we can do.
